Home › Mobile Home Moving (Single & Double Wide)
Moving a mobile home is a lot more than hooking up and driving. A typical move includes disconnecting utilities, taking off the skirting, removing the tie-downs, putting the hitch and axles back on, transporting the home under a TxDMV oversize permit, and then setting it back up at the new site.
Single-wide moves
A single-wide moves as one section, usually behind one toter truck. Most are 14 to 18 feet wide, and a wider load may need escort vehicles under the permit.
Double-wide moves
A double-wide is split at the marriage line and moved in two sections, each with its own permit, then joined back together, sealed and leveled at the new site. This is why a double-wide move usually costs roughly twice as much as a single-wide.
What to have ready
- Proof of ownership (a Texas Statement of Ownership from TDHCA).
- A tax certificate from the county tax office showing property taxes are paid. Texas requires one before a manufactured home can be moved.
- The new address, plus details about the driveway and pad.
- Photos of the home, its hitch end and the path out.

Questions folks ask
How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Texas?
Typical estimates run about $1,500 to $5,000 for a local single-wide transport and $3,000 to $10,000 or more for a double-wide. Full-service moves with teardown and setup can go higher. Distance, size, permits, escorts and site work all change the price, so get written quotes.
Do you move the home yourselves?
No. We are a free referral service. We connect you with independent local movers and installers who do the work and set their own prices.
What paperwork do I need to move a mobile home in Texas?
Usually proof of ownership (a TDHCA Statement of Ownership) and a tax certificate from the county tax office showing taxes are paid. The mover gets the TxDMV oversize permit for the transport.
